Game week six of the Ethiopian Higher League took place across three towns on Wednesday and Thursday.
Group A
Bench Maji Bunna have continued their 3 game winning run by beating Wollo Kombolcha 1-0. Following a non-eventful first half Ephrem Tamiru got the only goal of the game in the 54th minute. Bench Maji sit top at the top of the table with 14 points following their win.
Second place Gamo Chencha and previous leaders Woldia drew 1-1 in a fiercely contested affair. The game saw plenty of chances from both sides but neither were able to convert. The last 10 minutes of the game were entertaining with two substitutes getting goals. Metiku Benda gave Gamo Chencha the lead in the 82nd minute but Tsega Mathewos scored a wonderful goal in the 93rd minute to level the score.
Third place Ethiopia Nigid Bank failed to win for the second time running as they drew 0-0 with Jimma Aba Bunna.
The game between Sendafa Beke and Durame Ketema was a five goal thriller. Israel Kebede gave Durame the lead with a header in the first minute. Mesay Solomon then leveled matters after 4 minutes. Durame retook the lead in the 12th minute via Dagem Dessalgn. However, Suraphel Ayele and Mesay Solomon’s goals gave Sendafa the win.
In the other games Akaki Kaliti beat Butajira 1-0, Addis Ketema got a 2-1 win against Batu Ketema and Halaba Ketema drew 0-0 with Sebeta Ketema.
Group B
Nekemte Ketema lost 1-0 to Kefa Bunna and gave up their lead at the top of the table. Kedir Siraj got the winning goal in the 15th minute.
Shashemene Ketema got a 1-0 win against Kenbata Shinshicho to claim top spot in this group with Getnet Tesfaye finding the back of the net following a goalkeeping error.
The biggest surprise from this group was Addis Ababa Ketema losing 4-1 to Injibara Ketema.
In the other games Jinka Ketema beat Ambo Ketema 2-1, Debrebirhan and Nib drew 1-1 while Kirkios and Yirga Chefe Bunna ended their game 0-0.
Group C
Hambericho Durame continued their 100% winning record to continue their lead at the top of the table. Dagem Bekele ,who is scoring in every game for his club, has once again found the net for Hambericho. In the 81st minute Hambericho keeper Asres Geshemo got sent off with a second yellow card. Outfield player Alazar Gebre was forced to finish the remaining minutes as goalkeeper.
The game of the group between Dessie Ketema and Silte Wurabe ended in a goalless stalemate. In addition to that Kolfe Keranio’s 1-0 loss to Negele Arsi means that Hambericho have extended their lead to three points with one game remaining.
In the other games Gelan Ketema’s 3-1 win over Sodo Ketema has enabled them to climb up to fifth. Yeka Kifle Ketema drew 0-0 to Burayu Ketema.
