The return leg of the CAF Confederation Cup semifinal between Olympic Safi and USM Alger was overshadowed by serious crowd violence that left journalists, fans, and players injured.
Reports obtained by Soccer Ethiopia from media partners in Morocco indicate that tensions escalated just minutes before kickoff. Supporters of the visiting side USM Alger were involved in incidents that quickly turned violent.
Witnesses and video footage show fans throwing prohibited objects and even stadium seats. The attacks were directed at Moroccan supporters and members of the press. A group of USM Alger fans also breached security barriers, entered the pitch, and assaulted several individuals.

The unrest caused major disruption to the match. Kickoff was delayed by one hour and 20 minutes. Play was repeatedly interrupted throughout the game due to the volatile atmosphere. A total of 19 minutes of added time was played.
The match ended 1-1 with USM Alger advancing to the final on away goals. The result, however, was overshadowed by the scenes in the stands.
Sources within the CAF say disciplinary action is expected. Officials are reviewing match reports and video evidence, with strong sanctions likely to follow after what has been described as shameful scenes.
