Ugandan champions Kawempe Muslim Ladies earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ethiopian Champions Nigd Bank in the ongoing 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Qualifiers group B clash.
Kawempe grabbed the decisive goal early when team captain Agnes Nabukenya calmly converted an 11th minute penalty after an early defensive misstep by CBE.
CBE pushed hard for an equalizer after the break. Mahlet Mitiku and Mihiret Ayele Abebe carved out key chances, but Kawempe goalkeeper Saidah Namwanje produced several vital saves to keep the clean sheet intact.
The result sees Kawempe avenging their 2-1 loss to the Ethiopian side in the 2024 CECAFA semi-finals which was hosted in Ethiopia. It also halts momentum for Birhanu Gizaw’s CBE, who had opened their Group B campaign in dominant fashion with an 11-0 win over Djibouti’s UJECO.
With Group B consisting of just three teams, Kawempe’s victory puts them in pole position to advance. Kawempe will secure top spot in the group if they avoid defeat against FC UJECO in their final group fixture.
