The Ethiopian Olympic Team has learned its first-round opponent for the upcoming 2027 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Following the official draw held at CAF Headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, Ethiopia has been paired against Uganda in the opening round. Should Ethiopia emerge victorious, they will advance to the second round to face Morocco. The first-round qualifying fixtures are scheduled to take place between 20 Sep and 6 Oct.
A total of 42 nations are entering the qualification campaign, which features three rounds of two-legged ties. Only seven teams will earn a spot alongside host nation Egypt in the final 8 team tournament in 2027. The two finalists of the 2027 U-23 AFCON will automatically qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games Men’s football.
The Ethiopian Olympic squad will be expected to mount a stronger campaign this time around after their 2023 qualification journey ended in an aggregate loss to DR Congo.
