Ethiopia is aiming to bring the continent’s premier football spectacle back to its roots.
The Ethiopian Football Federation, backed by the federal government, has officially handed over its bid handbook to CAF in a bid to secure the hosting rights for the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations.
In a statement shared on social media, the federation confirmed its readiness to organize the prestigious tournament for a historic fourth time, aiming to reaffirm Ethiopia’s rich legacy in African football.
If successful, this would mark the fourth time the nation stages the showpiece event, having previously hosted in 1962 (where they claimed their sole title), 1968, and 1976.
By stepping forward for 2028, the founding CAF member seeks to celebrate over six decades of continental football history by hosting the tournament for the first time in over 50 years.
