A rising football talent with Ethiopian roots is continuing to make his mark in Italy. Aaron Ciammaglichella has officially been called up to the Italy U-21 national team for their upcoming friendly against Albania on June 8.
The versatile midfielder is currently on loan at Serie B side Juve Stabia and is widely regarded as one of the brightest young prospects in Italian football. His latest call-up marks another important step in a career that continues to move in the right direction.
Born in Turin to an Italian mother and an Ethiopian father Aaron carries a strong connection to both countries. His father Mattia Addisu Ciammaglichella was born in Batu Ethiopia before later being adopted and raised in Milan. Mattia also played football in Serie D and futsal leagues.
In an interview with renowned Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio Mattia spoke about Aaron’s early passion for the game.
“When he was just two or three years old he would always come to the pitch to watch me play with a football in his hands. You could already see his love for the game.”
Known by the nickname “Sima” Aaron began his football journey at Torino FC at the age of four. He progressed through the club’s youth ranks before officially joining the senior setup in 2024.
To gain first-team experience Aaron spent time on loan at Ternana before joining Juve Stabia where he has continued his development in Serie B.
What makes Ciammaglichella stand out is his technical quality and versatility. Although naturally a midfielder he is capable of playing in several attacking roles including attacking midfielder winger and false nine.
Growing up Aaron admired Swedish legend Zlatan Ibrahimović for his confidence creativity and commanding presence on the pitch.
Ciammaglichella has represented Italy at multiple youth levels since first wearing the Azzurri shirt with the U-15 side under coach Patrizia Panico. The U-21 call-up now marks another major milestone in his international journey.
His talent has also earned global recognition. In 2022 The Guardian included him in its annual list of the 60 best young football talents born in 2005. He appeared alongside names such as Vitor Roque Arda Güler and Mathys Tel.
With strong development in Italy and proud Ethiopian roots Aaron Ciammaglichella is becoming a player many football fans in both Italy and Ethiopia will be watching closely in the years ahead.
