The 2014/15 National League champions DireDawa Kenema unveiled seven new players. DireDawa signed veteran players from Premier League clubs and upcoming talented players from the recently elapsed National League.
Former Ethiopia Nigd Bank center back Tesfaye Dibaba is among the signed player. Tesfaye, who previously played for Mugher Cement and Ethiopia Bunna, was a free agent after his tenure ended at Bank. The defender could manage to play a few games last season for Tsegaye Kidanemariam’s Bank. He spent much of last term on substitute bench. Tesfaye reunited with his brother Workneh Dibaba at DireDawa.
Ex Ethiopian international Goalkeeper Samson Assefa is another player who joined DireDawa. The veteran goalie spent last season at Ethiopia Medhin on loan from Premier League champions Kidus Giorgis. Prior to joining DireDawa Samson initially signed for Wolitta Dicha. Nevertheless, the player changed his mind and headed to the East Ethiopian outfit. DireDawa head head coach Mesert Manni told Soccer Ethiopia that the saga surrounding Samson is an absolute rubbish. “We signed Samson in a legit way. We haven’t done any illicit thing on that regard.” said the historic coach Mesert Manni.
Dire Dawa also completed the signing of center back Firew Birhanu from the relegated Woldia SC, Henok Adugna from Halaba, former Woldia SC striker Akileseyas Girma from Wollo Kombolcha and Zelalem from Debub Police.
Since the club brought new faces it will simultaneously let go 9 players. On other news the National League top goal scorer Belay Abayneh appeared to be staying with DireDawa for another year.
