Delight for Hawassa in the Roduwa Derby while Kidus Giorgis returned to winning ways in the third day action of game week five.
In the highly anticipated “Roduwa Derby” Eyob Alemayehu’s 65th minute strike sealed the victory for the blue half of Sidama.
Sidama Bunna setting their eyes for their second win of the campaign made two alterations from the side that took all three points against Shashemene Ketema, the changes saw Muluken Addisu and Bulcha Shura coming in place of Abebayehu Yohaness and Abenezer Asfaw. Meanwhile, Hawassa Ketema named an unchanged 11 from their previous outing against Ethiopia Medhin.
The two halves witnessed somehow a continuing theme as the entirety of the match was a very cagey and evenly contested affair.
In the first half, both sides had two very good chances to take the lead but brilliant last gasp defending forced the half to end in a draw.
After the restart, Hawassa Ketema started the half taking the upper hand over Sidama Bunna following a personnel and structural adjustment.
The alterations paid dividends twenty minutes in, on the 65th minute Hawassa Ketema got the all important match winning goal, Eyob Alemayehu’s composed finish from the side of the box handed Hawassa the precious derby day delight.
Hawassa climbed into the 5th spot with 9 points while Sidama yet to put their season on track are 11th with 4 points.
In the late kickoff, Kidus Giorgis ease past Ethiopia Medhin 3-0 to return to the summit of the log.
Ethiopia Medhin head coach Gebremedhin Haile made two changes from the side that shared points with Hawassa Ketema, the changes saw Abubeker Wondimu and Amir Mudesir making way for Yared Darza and Olisema Chenedu meanwhile Zerihun Shengeta handed Moses Oddo his full premier league debut after his superb goal scoring cameo last week coming in place of Amanuel Erbo.
In what was a very comfortable evening for Kidus Giorgis Abel Yalew netted his 5th goal of the campaign in the 37th minute from the spot while Ghanian Mosses Oddo was also on the score sheet for the second week running where as second half substitute Amanuel Erbo netted the third in the 81st minute.
The win saw the holders reclaiming the top spot with 13 points, in the meantime, Ethiopia Medhin are yet to win after their opening day victory sitting 10th with 5 points.
