The 15th round of the CBE Ethiopian Premier League played in Addis Ababa and Adama with late goals dominating the week.
The round began on Thursday with two scoreless games. Ethiopia Medhin and Wolwalo Adigrat University played out a goalless draw in Addis Ababa while Bahir Dar Ketema and Mekelle 70 Enderta also finished without goals in Adama.
On Friday Sheger Ketema and Fasil Kenema shared the points after another goalless encounter in Addis Ababa. Negele Arsi and Wolaitta Dicha drew 1-1 in a match that came alive late. Gebremeskel Dubale put Arsi Negele ahead in the 83rd minute but Carlos Damtew scored from the penalty spot in stoppage time to rescue a point for Wolaitta Dicha.
In Adama Hadiya Hossana returned to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over Shire Midregenet. Tekalign Dejene gave Shire the early lead but Biruk Beyene equalized from the penalty spot before halftime. After the break Hadiya Hossana took control as Elias Ahmed and youngster Surafel Temesgen found the net.
In the late encounter in Adama Ethio Electric defeated Ethiopia Nigd Bank 2-1. Eyob Gebremariam opened the scoring for Electric before Binyam Kassahun leveled the match against his former club. Hassen Hussein scored the winning goal in the 73rd minute.
On the final day Mechal ended a three match losing streak with a 2-0 win over Arbaminch Ketema in Addis Ababa. Chernet Gugsa and Ugandan striker Charles Musige scored the goals.
Kidus Giorgis produced one of the performances of the round with a dominant 4-0 win over Diredawa Ketema. Abel Yalew scored twice to move to the top of the league scoring chart while Habtamu Gulilat and Fitsum Tilahun added the other goals. The victory ended a six match winless run for the record league champions.
Ethiopia Bunna and Hawassa Ketema shared the spoils in Adama. Divine Nwachukwu gave the Browns the lead in the 38th minute but veteran forward Getaneh Kebede equalized the Lakers to ensure the draw.
The final match of the round saw league leaders Sidama Bunna drop points against Adama Ketema. Mesfin Tafesse scored twice to give Sidama a 2-0 halftime lead but Adama responded strongly after the break. Abubeker Sani pulled one back in the 55th minute and Mujib Kassim scored a late equalizer to secure a dramatic draw.
The CBE Ethiopian Premier League will resume on January 20 with Week 16 fixtures following a two day break.
