Hawassa Ketema have completed an agreement to sign Beninese goalkeeper.
The shot-stopper arrives in Ethiopia following a successful period in the Nigeria Premier Football League where he played for Kano Pillars and Remo Stars. Obasa earned individual recognition during the 2024/25 campaign, winning the NPFL Goalkeeper of the Year award after recording 15 clean sheets in 28 league appearances. He followed that achievement by helping Remo Stars secure the NPFL league title in the 2025/26 season.
His performances in Nigeria led to a senior national team call-up for Benin under head coach Gernot Rohr. Obasa went on to feature for the national side during both Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualification matches.
With this move, Obasa joins a select group of Beninese goalkeepers operating in the Ethiopian top flight, alongside former Ethiopia Bunna and Bahir Dar keeper Harriston Hessou, as well as Lisasi, who recently agreed to terms with Halaba Ketema.
The arrival of Obasa marks another addition to the Lakers squad rebuild this transfer window. The club has also reached agreements to sign Kalkidan Zelalem, Biruk Beyene, Mussie Kebela, Kale’ab Wubshet, and Redwan Nasir.
