Dedebit have appointed former Welwalo FC coach Getachew Dawit as the man to lead the ‘blue army’ in the upcoming premier league season. Dedebit were led by assistant coach Daniel Tsehaye in the closing stages of the past season after former manager Yohannes Sahle was chosen by the EFF to take the helm at the National Team.
Getachew Dawit, who had been in charge of Welwalo FC among a handful of other National League clubs, is CAF A license holder and wore the jersey of Ethiopian top flight clubs in his playing career. But the most important quality that landed him the job may have been his familiarity with the club and its surroundings.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony at Ethiopia Hotel this Morning, Dedebit’s technical director Michael Amdemeskel affirmed the club’s belief that the new coach will maintain the club’s success and status in the local game. According to the technical director the new Coach, whom he described as ‘Young, Energetic and Disciplined’, is a capable tactician who is well aware of the club’s tradition because of his connections with the club. Getachew served as Dedebit’s assistant coach when the club was promoted to the Ethiopian premier league 6 years ago.
“Coach Getachew has tremendous experience as a player. He also worked with our club in the past. He understands our club’s tradition and the way things are done here. So, we believe he’s the right man for the job.” Michael said.
Coach Getachew Dawit on his part explained his happiness at being offered the opportunity to coach a club of Dedebit’s stature and vowed to build a competitive team that can challenge for titles.
“I thank the management for believing in me, and giving me the opportunity to be part of the club once again. Dedebit is a big team. We have a good and competitive squad and an experienced technical bench. We hope to maintain the club’s name and success in the local scene.”
“I plan to build a team that depends on team work rather than individual brilliance. Together with my technical team, we have signed players suited with my style of play. Many fans may not have confidence in me since I came from a club playing in the lower division, but the difference between the top flight and the national league is not as high as it’s widely perceived. In addition, I don’t think the task at hand will be too challenging since I have a good coaching staff at my disposal. I plan to prove my doubters wrong.”
The new coach has been given a mandate of a top 3 finish in the league and will be assisted by Daniel Tsehaye and Eliyas Ibrahim.
In a similar news, Dedebit have also appointed Firew Hailegabriel to replace Asrat Abate and lead their Women’s team as they challenge for a maiden Women’s Premier League title in the upcoming season. Firew Hailegabriel, a CAF B license holder and Sport Science graduate, has been handed a 1 year contract subject to renewal and will be aiming to end CBE FC’s dominance in Ethiopian Women Football.
