Rwanda cruise past Kenya in the 2015 DSTV CECAFA Cup quarter final game played in Addis Ababa Stadium. Amavubi dumped out holders the Harambee Stars 5-3 on penalties.
Harambee Stars started the game brightly as they pushed to get an early goal through Jacob Keli and Micheal Olunga. Amavubi also had a chance to score as they tested Kenyan custodian Boniface Oluoch through Djihad Bizimana and Dominique Savio Nshuti. The scores tied up both teams’ headed to a penalty shootout as Amavubi emerge victorious after converting all the five penalties. Harambee Stars midfielder Eric Johana saw his effort parried away by Rwandan goalie Eric Ndayishmiye.
Sudan overcame South Sudan 5-3 on penalties in the second Sudanese derby earlier in the day. Sudan dominated possession but failed to convert their chances. The tourney’s top goal scorer Atahir El-Tahir’s goal bound curling effort hits the upright bar. South Sudanese goalie Juma Jinaro was crucial in denying much of the Sudanese’s efforts. Sudan goalkeeper the veteran Akram El-Hadi Salim was the hero as he saves Silvestre William Ofiri’s penalty kick to hand Sudan a place in the semi-final.
Sudan will battle it out against Rwanda in the semi-final as hosts Ethiopia are up against Uganda on Thursday, December 3.
