Wolaitta Dicha stunned Mekelakeya 2-1 whilst Kidus Giorgis shared spoils with Ethiopia Nigd Bank in the Week 10 of the Ethiopian Premier League in Addis Ababa.
Wolaitta Dicha ultimately ended their negative run of results with a 2-1 win over CAF Confederation Cup Ethiopia’s flag bearers Mekelakeya. The vistors took the lead five minutes after the kick off as Mekelakeya defender Shemeles Tegegn backpass reached Alazar Fasika, who slotted home from close range. The Army side pushed for equalizer in which they were rewarded when the match referee pointed to the spot for a handball. Mohammed Nasser made no mistake as he converts the spot kick to restore parity. Alazar Fasika completed his brace in the 52th minute with a cool finish. Mekelakeya have thrown everything to level matters but Dicha custodian Wendesen Ashenafi was superb in denying them.
Ethiopia Nigd Bank held Kidus Giorgis to barren draw. Both sides failed to create numerous clear cut chances. Giorgis opted to attack in second half as Bank deployed a very defensive tactic to earn a point against the league leaders. Giorgis were frustrated as they aimed to extend their lead in the table.
The draw meant Kidus Gorgis now have 23 points, the same tally as Adama Ketema. However, the Horsemen top the log table with superior goal difference. Ethiopia Nigd Bank occupies 8th with 12 points. Wolaitta Dicha jumped 5 places to sit 6th with 13 points. Mekelakeya are 7th after collecting 12 points.
Adama Ketema’s Tafese Tesfaye leads the top goal scoring chart with 8 goals. Kidus Giorgis center forward Adane Girma and Dedebit’s Nigerian striker Samuel Sanumi are second after netting seven goals.
