Match Day 17 of the Ethiopian Higher League occurred from Monday to Wednesday, showcasing shocking results and changes in the standings.
Group A
The best match of the week saw Ethiopia Nigid Bank and Woldia go head to head in what can be dubbed a six-pointer in the race for promotion. Group leaders Nigid Bank were shocked as they lost 0-1 to Woldia who sit in third place. There is now only a 3-point gap between the two sides. The other side in the mix for promotion, Bench Maji Bunna, dropped 3 points to one of the bottom teams, Sebeta Ketema.
In the other games, Jimma Aba Bunna beat Wollo Kombolcha 2-1, Batu Ketema drew 0-0 with Halaba Ketema, Akaki Kaliti beat Sendafa Beke 1-0, Butajira Ketema lost 0-1 to Gamo Chencha and Durame Ketema were defeated 0-2 by Addis Ketema Kifle Ketema.
Group B
Shashemene Ketema has continued its brilliant run by recording another victory. The group leaders beat Injibara Ketema 1-0. Many spectators including the mayor of Shashemene attended the game. Injibara Ketema had the better possession but errors in their play exposed them to the transitional game of Shashemene. Fuad Mohammed’s strike was the difference maker. Shashemene maintains a five-point lead at the top of the table.
Addis Ababa Ketema lost 1-0 to Kirkos Kifle Ketema and finds catching up to the top spot daunting. Teams from 3rd to 5th ( Nib, Nekemte Ketema, and Yirga Chefe Bunna) sit on 27 points only separated by goal difference.
Elsewhere Kafa Bunna lost 0-1 to Boditi Ketema, and Gulele beat Kembata Shinshicho 1-0.
Group C
Gelan Ketema and Hambericho Durame lead the way in Group C with both sides now on 31 points 8 points ahead of the club behind them. Gelan Ketema managed to win 1-0 this match day against Burayu Ketema. Hambericho Durame dropped points for the third time consecutively and gave up the first place as they drew 1-1 against Federal police.
In the other games Robe Ketema and Damot Ketema drew 1-1, Kolfe Keraniyo beat Silte Worabe 1-0, Sodo Ketema lost 0-1 to Dessie Ketema, and Negele Arsi beat Jimma Aba Jifar 2-1.
