The CBE Ethiopian Premier League Week 14 matches were played over the past three days. Table toppers Sidama Bunna dropped points while Negele Arsi continued their impressive form. Bahir Dar, Hawassa, Medhin, and Bunna returned to winning ways as Fasil Kenema suffered their first setback of the season.
The week’s action began on Thursday at Addis Ababa Stadium, where Negele Arsi defeated Midregenet Shire 1-0 to register their fourth straight victory. Talented youngster Kabe Bizuneh scored the decisive goal, lifting the newly promoted side to second place in the standings.
In another Thursday fixture Wolwalo Adigrat University and Adama Ketema played out a 1-1 draw. Meanwhile in Adama, league leaders Sidama Bunna were held to a goalless draw by bottom placed Arbaminch Ketema.
Friday’s matches were also closely contested as Diredawa Ketema and Ethio Electric ended goalless, while Mekelle 70 Enderta and Sheger Ketema also shared the points without scoring. Hawassa Ketema, however, returned to winning ways after beating Kidus Giorgis 1-0 thanks to a goal from veteran Shimelis Bekele.
On Saturday two highly anticipated matches were staged at Addis Ababa Stadium. Bahir Dar Ketema defeated Mechal 2-1, with Fikremichael Alemu and Girma Disasa scoring for the Waves, while Mohamed Abera netted for Mechal. The victory marked Bahir Dar’s return to winning form after four goalless draws and one defeat, while Mechal suffered a third consecutive loss.
In the following match, Bunna secured a 2-0 victory over Fasil Kenema. Zelalem Abate opened the scoring with a spectacular overhead kick before Aboubakar Adamu added the second. Following the result the Emperors tasted their first defeat of the season.
Elsewhere in Adama, Ethiopia Medhin defeated Wolaitta Dicha 2-1 to return to winning ways after four matches. Bereket Kaleb and Bruk Mulgeta scored for the defending champions. Earlier at the same venue, the match between Ethiopian Nigd Bank and Hadiya Hossana ended in a goalless draw.
