The second day of action of the opening round fixtures of the 2023/24 Ethiopian Premier League saw Wolaita Dicha and Dire Dawa collecting all three points.
In the early kickoff, Tsegaye Abera’s strike handed Wolaita Dicha a moral boosting opening day victory at the expense of newly promoted Shashmene Ketema.
Wolaita Dicha under newly appointed Yared Gemechu named four of their summer recruits in their starting 11 while new looking Shashemene Ketema led by Tsegaye Wondimu gave a debut to eight of their new signings.
Wolaita Dicha playing a very expansive brand of football dominated the match creating too many chances to put the match to bed soon but they failed to convert.
After a goalless first half, Tsegaye Abera who rejoined Wolaita Dicha this summer scored the match wining goal in the 48th minute.
In the late kickoff, Dire Dawa Ketema came from a goal down to edge newly promoted Hambricho Durame 2-1.
Degu Dubamo named a much changed XI from their Higher league campaign while Asrat Abat named three new signings in their starting lineup.
Yehwalashet Fekadu gave Hambricho the edge going into the break but Dire came back stronger and levelled matters just seven minutes after the restart through Elias Ahmed.
Minutes later Ugandan international Charles Musige netted the all important goal that sealed the comeback victory for Dire Dawa Ketema.
