The venue for Welwalo Adigrat University’s away fixture in their maiden African campaign has been officially confirmed.
The 2025/26 Ethiopian Cup champions will face Sudanese side Al Hilal Al Sahil in Kigali, Rwanda for the first preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
With ongoing security concerns continuing to prevent international football matches from taking place in Sudan, CAF mandates neutral host venues for Sudanese clubs. Al Hilal Al Sahil selected the Rwandan capital as their home base for this round.
The Sudanese delegation landed in Kigali on Wednesday afternoon, flying in directly from Port Sudan. Led by board members and team officials, the initial traveling party includes 25 players, with additional squad members expected to join the training camp over the coming days.
For Welwalo this fixture marks an unprecedented milestone. Capturing the Ethiopian Cup secured their inaugural ticket to continental competition, the single greatest achievement in the club’s 70 year history.
