In one of the most high-profile moves of the domestic transfer window, star striker Abubeker Nassir has completed a return to domestic football, signing a two-year deal with Mechal.
Abubeker burst onto the scene with Harar City’s youth setup before joining Ethiopia Bunna, where he established himself as one of the country’s most lethal forwards. During the 2020/21 campaign, he set the all-time Ethiopian Premier League single-season record by scoring 29 goals in just 24 matches, sweeping Best player, Top scorer and Top scorers awards.
His stellar domestic performances earned him a high-profile transfer to South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns. Despite displaying initial promise, recurrent injury setbacks limited his playing time across spells with Mamelodi Sundowns, SuperSport United, and Pretoria University.
Now fully back in Ethiopia, the Walias forward aims to revitalize his career and spearhead Mechal’s attack for the upcoming season.
The arrival of Abubeker also reunites the striker with head coach Wubetu Abate under whom he previously starred for the Ethiopian national team.
