The inaugural Sidama Gofere Cup kicked off today as Sidama Bunna earn a hard fought win against Diredawa Kenema in a match characterized by fatal individual errors.
The opening ceremony was attended by Sidama region sports commission commissioner Mr. Ferew Afera, Sidama region football federation vice president Mr. Anbese Abebe and other dignitaries were at the Hawassa Artificial turf stadium.
The opening minutes of the game were accompanied by a heavy shower and the first half was merely a one sided affair as Sidama Bunna was in complete control of the game.
The opening goal of the tournament came in the 5th minute as new summer recruit Firew Solomon scored after his teammate Yigezu Bogale solo effort proved to make things easy for Firew to score.
Sidama built on their lead and scored the second goal two minutes later as Habtamu Gezahege double the lead.
Sidama Bunna dictated the midfield and seem to quickly switch the balls to the wings creating a one on one situation for their wide men.
On the 24th minute, Biruk Mulugeta who swamped Kolfe Keraniyo for Sidama this summer extended their lead to 3-0 after a quick succession of passes in midfield took him through.
After the restart Diredawa Ketema scored two goals in quick succession to reduce the deficit courtesy to blunders from Sidama Bunna players, Abdurahman Mubarek strike from outside the box in the 51st minute and three minutes later Gadissa Mebrate slotted home the second.
The second half saw Sidama Bunna drop off from what was witnessed in the first half as Diredawa seem to find some composure in the second half.
With the game ending 3-2 in favor of Sidama Bunna, Diredawa’s midfielder Bruik Kalbore was given a second yellow card for descent.
Sidama Bunna’s Firew Solomon was voted as Gofere’s man of the match.
