CAF has officially confirmed the schedule for the 1st Preliminary Round draw of the 2026/27 Interclub Competitions, where Ethiopian representatives Sidama Bunna and Welwalo Adigrat University will learn their continental opponents.
CAF has set the official draw ceremony for Thursday, August 6 at its headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, commencing at 2pm (EAT). Sidama Bunna will represent Ethiopia in the CAF Champions League while Welwalo Adigrat University enters the CAF Confederation Cup.
To help ease the financial strain on participating teams across the continent, CAF has implemented an upgraded prize distribution framework for the 2026/27 season. Every participating teams including those eliminated in the initial preliminary round will receive a guaranteed $50,000. For clubs that successfully progress to the group stages, the financial incentives increase significantly as qualifying for the chamions league group stage guarantees a minimum payout of $700,000, with the ultimate tournament champion taking home $4,000,000. Clubs reaching the confederation cup group stage will earn at least $400,000 while the tournament winner will claim $2,000,000.
The opening leg of the 1st Preliminary Round is scheduled to kick off in September 2026.
