Fasil Kenema Secure First Summer Signing as Club Rejects Egyptian Offer

2020/21 Ethiopian Premier League champions Fasil Kenema have made first move in the transfer market, securing their first summer signing while rejecting a transfer request from Egypt for their star forward.

The Emperors has agreed terms to sign Nigerian striker Jerome Odey. The imposing forward first arrived in Ethiopian football during the January 2024 transfer window with Ethiopia Medhin, before featuring for Bahir Dar kenema the following season and spending the most recent campaign with Arbaminch Ketema. Jerome now steps up as Fasil Kenema’s first acquisition of the current transfer window.

Simultaneously, Fasil Kenema has turned down an approach from Egyptian Premier League side Modern Sport for striker Tamirat Iyasu, who finished as the joint-top scorer in the CBE Ethiopian Premier League alongside Natnael Daniel. The player’s representative Azaria Tesfatsion confirmed that Modern Sport submitted a formal letter offering a trial opportunity with a view to a permanent transfer upon successful completion. However, Fasil Kenema responded to the Egyptian club declining both the trial and transfer proposal.

Tamirat, who joined Fasil Kenema mid season from Arbaminch before capturing the top scorer title, remains a cornerstone of the squad under head coach Zemariam Woldegeorgis, who recently transitioned from his interim role to take permanent charge of the team.
