Mechal has significantly strengthened its roster with the addition of three foreign recruits as part of an ambitious transfer campaign led by new head coach Wubetu Abate.
The imposing 1.94 meter Guinean shot stopper Mohamed Camara joins Mechal on a one year deal following two impressive seasons with Ghanaian side Asante Kotoko. After starting his career in his homeland Camara’s standout performances in the Ghana Premier League recently earned him a call up to the Guinea senior national team. Despite strong interest from several clubs across Southern and East Africa, Camara reportedly chose Mechal as his next destination.
The Liberian international attacking midfielder Jegbay Morris arrives as Mechal’s fifth signing of the window on a one year loan deal from South Sudanese side Jamus FC. Jegbay previously featured for various clubs in Liberia, TS Galaxy in South Africa and Jamus. Morris was highly targeted by coach Wubetu Abate, who knows the player well from his tenure managing Jamus. Although Morris traveled to Rwanda with Jamus to participate in the ongoing CECAFA Kagame Cup, the South Sudanese club held him out of their opening match against Singida Black Stars to finalize negotiations and greenlight his transfer to Mechal.
Mechal’s sixth signing of the window is 26 year old midfielder Mudathir Yahya. Having spent over six years at Jamus FC, the midfielder has agreed to a one year contract. He will reunite with coach Wubetu Abate after working under him for several months in South Sudan.
The arrival of these three foreign players comes alongside Mechal’s earlier domestic recruitments. After appointing former national team boss Wubetu Abate as head coach, the club previously agreed terms with Yared Kassaye, Amanuel Terfu, and Ramadan Yusuf.
