Anteneh Tefera has signed a new contract extension to remain with the club for an additional year beyond his remaining deal.
The pacy forward who first introduced himself to top flight football after being brought to Ethiopia Bunna following promising performances for Shakiso City in the annual Ethiopian Clubs Championship in 2023. He spent the current season split between two clubs, six months at Sheger City followed by six months at Bahir Dar Kenema. When he moved from Sheger to Bahir Dar, he originally signed an 18 month deal with the Tana Waves. Although Anteneh still had a full year left on his contract, he has agreed to a new extension that will keep him at the club for another year through 2028.
Given that contract extensions for players with time remaining on their current deals are relatively rare in Ethiopian football, Soccer Ethiopia asked Anteneh Tefera about the reasoning behind his decision. “It might not be very common. But as you know Coach Degarege has extended his contract. When the coach called to share his future plans for the club and asked me to stay and work alongside him as part of that vision, and when the club management presented their positive ambitions for where they want to take the team, I was thrilled and convinced by the club’s project which is why I chose to extend my contract.”
