Bahirdar kept their premier league survival in their own hands as Menaf Awol’s first half strike gave them the edge over Dire Dawa.
The lunchtime kickoff of greater importance between Diredawa Ketema and Bahirdar Ketema in their bid for survival ended in Bahirdar’s favor.
The first half was a cagey one as both sides were very reserved in their offensive play, but with a greater degree of athleticism, but Menaf Awol’s first goal of the season gave Bahirdar the lead just before halftime.
In the second half, Bahirdar Ketema created chance after chance but Firew Getahun’s performance was out of this world as he made crucial saves to keep Dire in the game.
In the closing stages of the match, Diredawa had a goal ruled out by the referee sending them into agony.
It was a huge relief for Bahirdar Ketema and their trainer Abraham Mebratu as they temporarily move into 9th position with 33 points while Dire Dawa’s survival hopes are fading away quickly.
In the late kickoff Wolkite Ketema and Sidama Bunna played out a one all draw, in what was an ill tempered match tackle and yellow cards were shown here and there.
The man in form Salhadin Seid opened the scoring for Sidama early in the first half but Wolkite leveled matters courtesy to a second half successful penalty kick from Habtamu Shewalem.
Wolkite Ketema dropped to the 11th spot with 32 points while Sidama remained 3rd with 44 points.
