The 2024/25 league champions Ethiopia Medhin (EIC) have secured their first four signings while renewing the contract of a key defender.
Abubeker Shamil has agreed to become Medhin’s first signing. Having previously played for Kolfie and Adama, the midfielder spent the last two years with Diredawa and has now agreed to make The Insurers his next destination.
Ashenafi Haftu has found a new club. Having risen through Mekelle 70 Enderta’s youth team and served the club for several years and winning the league title with his parent club in 2019, the versatile player spent his entire career at Mekelle 70 Enderta aside from a six-month stint at Kirkos in 2023. He has now joined Ethiopia medhin as their second summer signing.
Kemal Haji’s destination is set with the Sky Blues. Kemal previously played for Silte Worabe in the Higher League and Hadiya Hossana in the Premier League. Following an impressive season with Dessie Ketema in the Higher League, he has now agreed to play for Medhin.
Geleta Hailu has joined Medhin. The former Ethiopia U-20 national team player previously featured for Jimma Aba Jifar and spent the past two years with Ethio Electric. The left back has now agreed to play for Ethiopia Medhin.
Insurers have agreed to retain Ghanaian defender Ismail Abdul Ganiyu. Prior to moving to Ethiopia, he played for TP Mazembe, Asante Kotoko, and Karela United before a spell at Diredawa and spending the recently concluded season with Ethiopia Medhin. The defender has extended his stay with Medhin for an additional year.
medhin recently appointed Degu Dubamo as the team’s head coach on a three year contract.
