Addis Abeba Footbll Federation annually organizes a preseason tourney, the Addis Abeba City Cup. The City Cup will begin on October 3.
The City Cup has been a perfect way for Addis Abeba teams to prepare for the premier league. AAFF vice president Mr. Yonas Hagos told Soccer Ethiopia the City Cup will be played between 8 clubs from October 3 to October 18 at Addis Abeba Stadium.
All the six Addis teams agreed to take part on this year’s City Cup. Kidus Giorgis, Ethiopia Bunna, Dedebit, Electric, Ethiopia Nigd Bank and Mekelakeya are the 6 teams that will compete for the glory. Meanwhile, the federation will invite two more non Addis Abeba sides to be in the City Cup. The federation confirmed it will give a press conference regarding the tourney this week.
The winner of the City Cup will get 15% of the revenue earned from Sponsors and stadium gate fee while the runner up, 3rd place, 4th place, 5th place and 6th place winners will get 10%, 7%, 4% and 3% of the revenue respectively. The invited two clubs won’t be included in the distribution of the revenue said Mr. Yonas.
