The Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) has today unveiled the vastly experienced Gebremedhin Haile as the new head coach of the Ethiopian national team on a one year deal.
In a press briefing held today at the headquarters of the EFF, coach Gebremedhin Haile and Bahiru Tilahun the general secretary of the federation penned a one year deal that would see Gebremedhin Haile taking charge of his club Ethiopai Medhin and the Ethiopian national team job at the same time.
“Creating a disciplined, forward oriented and winning team is our aim,” Gebremedhin said in a press conference.
“I personally don’t like my team to be obsessed with only passing i want my team to play on speed and reach opponent’s box now and then. I hope we will be making some progress in that regard in a short span of time.”
Gebremedhin who had a decorated career as both player and manager has previously had a short but successful stint as the head coach of the Ethiopian national team six years ago. he was also an assistant coach for the legend Asrat Haile when Ethiopia lifted the CECAFA senior challenge cup in 2004.
Ethiopian Football Federation temporarily appointed the national federation technical director Daniel G/Mariam as a caretaker coach for the past few months after they parted ways with Wubetu Abate.
Gebremedhin Haile will begin his task in two weeks time leading the currently 143th ranked nation in the current FIFA ranking by taking on Sierra Leone and Burkina Faso in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers at the El Abdi Stadium in El Jadida Morocco.
