Ethiopian reigning champions Ethiopia Medhin have successfully surpassed the preliminary round of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League after defeating Zanzibar’s Mlandege FC on aggregate.
A first-leg victory at the Abebe Bikila Stadium in Addis Ababa laid a strong foundation with goals from Amanueal Erbo and Biruk Mulugeta securing a 2-0 win for the Insurers.
In today’s return match at the Amani Stadium in Zanzibar Mlandege won 3-2. However Ethiopia Medhin advanced 4-2 on aggregate and confirmed their place in the next round.
Ethiopia Medhin will now face the winner of the tie between the current CAF Champions League and FIFA Interclubs champion Pyramids FC and Rwanda’s APR FC in the second preliminary round.
