Ethiopia’s top football league will now be called the “CBE Ethiopian Premier League,” announced OBN Director General Fisseha Belayneh during today’s broadcasting partnership signing ceremony.
Mr. Fisseha said the nation’s largest financial institution, Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) has become the league’s title sponsor. He praised CBE’s strong role in the country’s economy and its long-standing support for Ethiopian football, adding that the bank showed great commitment to back the league despite having its own club.
As part of the sponsorship, all 20 clubs will wear the CBE logo on the left sleeve of their match jerseys.
CBE, which has operated its own football club for over 40 years, has won the Ethiopian Premier League once and the Women’s Premier League eight times. The new naming deal further strengthens the state-owned bank’s influence and legacy in Ethiopian football.
