The CBE Ethiopian Premier League continued to struggle for goals as Week 13 fixtures were once again dominated by low scoring matches. Despite the ongoing trend Sidama Bunna strengthened their position at the top of the table.
All four matches played on Saturday ended in draws. In Addis Ababa Adama Ketema faced Fasil Kenema while Ethio Electric played Wolwalo Adigrat University with both matches finishing goalless. In Adama Kidus Giorgis and Wolaitta Dicha shared a 1-1 draw while Arbaminch Ketema and Hawassa Ketema ended level without goals.
Sunday’s fixtures provided more excitement in terms of goals. This season’s surprise package Negele Arsi continued their impressive run by defeating title contenders Mechal 2–0 with first half goals from Dawit Tefera and Aleneta Markos.
Later at Addis Ababa Stadium Midre Genet Shire secured a convincing 3-1 victory over Ethiopia Bunna. Shimeket Gugsa scored twice while Daniel Darge added the third goal.
In Adama Sheger Ketema and Ethiopia Nigd Bank played out a 1-1 draw. Wondirkid Dawit Kassaw scored for Sheger on his first start for the club while league top scorer Addis Gidey converted a penalty to earn the Bankers a point.
The evening fixture saw league leaders Sidama Bunna defeat Hadiya Hossana 2-0 thanks to goals from Mesfin Tafesse and Yosef Yohannes as they extended their lead at the summit.
Monday’s matches returned to the familiar low scoring pattern. Bahir Dar Ketema and Dire Dawa Ketema shared a goalless draw in Addis Ababa. Meanwhile Mekelle 70 Enderta continued their resurgence under returning coach Tsegaye Kidanemariam with a narrow 1-0 victory over defending champions Medhin through a goal by Fitsum Alemu.
