The 16th round of the CBE Ethiopian Premier League continued with seven matches played across three days as Sidama Bunna, Shire, Mechal, Adama and Mekelle 70 Enderta all recorded important victories.
The week began on Tuesday in Adama where Mekelle 70 Enderta defeated Ethio Electric 2-1. Git Gatkuoth and Fitsum Alemu gave Mekelle a two goal lead before the break while Habtamu Shewalem scored for Electric in the second half. Earlier in the day Wolaitta Dicha and Bahir Dar Ketema played out a goalless draw. The match between Hadiya Hossana and Fasil Kenema that was scheduled to be played in Addis Ababa was postponed due to the Epiphany celebration.
Action continued on Wednesday with four matches. In Addis Ababa. Wolwalo Adigrat University and Sheger Ketema shared the points in a one all draw while Shire Midregenet claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Arbaminch Ketema through a freekick goal from Sentayehu Waleche.
In Adama the hosts Adama Ketema recorded a thrilling 3-2 win over Ethiopia Nigd Bank with goals from Binyam Ayten, Ahmed Hussein and Abubeker Sani while Addis Giday and Simon Peter scored for Bank. Hawassa Ketema defeated Arsi Negele 2-0 as Shimelis Bekele and Tebarek Hefamo found the net to move Hawassa up to second place in the standings.
In the final day matches Diredawa Ketema and Ethiopia Medhin played out a goalless draw in the capital. Mechal continued their fine form by defeating Kidus Giorgis 2-0 with defender Fetudin Jemal scoring two first half goals.
In the only match played in Adama league leaders Sidama Bunna strengthened their position at the top of the table with a commanding 3-0 victory over Ethiopia Bunna. Ngoh Blaise, Firaol Mengistu and Yosef Yohannes were all on the scoresheet as Sidama extended their lead at the summit.
