Mechal were held by Shashemene Ketema while also nothing to separate Wolaita Dicha and Bahir Dar Ketema in the second day action of game week 26.
In what was a very tricky fixture at both extremes of the log saw Mechal and Shashemene Ketema sharing the spoils.
The first half witnessed a very brave approach for Shashemene as they were positive and were playing with a higher defensive line to the surprise of many considering their opponent.
Their bravery paid off as the first half progressed, in the 29th minute Abdulqader Nasser gave them the edge while in the 44th minute a very composed finish from Mulugeta W/Giyorgis sent coach Zemariam and his players into ecstasy.
But Shashmene suffered a set back just before halftime as Mechal pulled one back seconds after Mulugeta scored, Bereket Desta who is struggling to reach the same heights this season scored the goal for Mechal that galvanized their hopes going into the second half.
After the restart Mechal played with more belief and determination and went on to score the equalizing goal through their skipper Minyelu Wondimu finishing off a nice team move.
Mechal got the better hand in the remaing minutes of the exchange and eventually were on the brink of running away with all the three points but a controversial referring decision saw them denied a goal scored by Yodahe Dawit.
Todays draw means Mechal have now 51 points two points behind Nigd Bank but this gap might extend to five points if Nigd bank got the better of Fasil Kenema while Shashemene reduced their deficit with 14th placed Wolkite to two points with four fixtures of huge importance set to be palyed after the coming international window.
The late kickoff also saw Bahir Dar Ketema and Wolaita Dicha ending in a draw.
The goalless draw means Bahir Dar Ketema cementing their 3rd palce with 45 points while Wolaita Dicha who are struggling to collect points as of late grabbed a cruical point to increase their tally of the season to 29 points residing 13th place.
